#1 Message from Chairman

Chairman

　In order to realize a truly rich and comfortable society, which will become possible through the vitalization of socio-economic, cultural and educational activities, Japan must address herself still to resolve a number of issues related to the globalization, aging population and environment. The advanced info-communications technology has been expected to play a vital role for reforming these socio-economic systems. It is, therefore, very important to make even more efforts to promote R&D relating to the field of info-communications technology, also with a view to creating the competitive business, from now on.

　The Support Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology Research, Foundation(SCAT), since its establishment in October 1988, has been engaged in the development of info-communications technology by reviewing and surveying the advanced technologies, funding for R&D projects, and providing information on advanced technologies. SCAT intends to continue its active supports for further promotion of R&D in the info-communications technology areas.

While conducting by ourselves or supporting the investigative researches on advanced telecommunication technology, and carrying out several projects, such as the spread, promotion, and proposition of the knowledge about research and development (R&D) of telecommunication technology, we intend to contribute to the promotion of R&D widely and to social economic developments in our country.
