Chairman

　A truly rich and comfortable society is possible through the vitalization of socio-economic,cultural and educational activities. To do this,Japan must address and resolve a number of issues related to globalization, an aging population and the environment. Advanced info-communications technology is expected to play a vital role in reforming socio-economic systems. It is therefore very important to make even more effort to promote R&D in the field of info-communications technology, and to create competitive businesses.

　Since its establishment in October 1988, the Support Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology Research (SCAT) has been engaged in the development of info-communications technology by reviewing and surveying advanced technologies, funding for R&D projects, and providing information on advanced technologies. SCAT intends to continue its active supports for further promotion of R&D in the info-communications technology areas.

While conducting by ourselves or supporting the investigative researches on advanced telecommunication technology, and carrying out several projects, such as the spread, promotion, and proposition of the knowledge about research and development (R&D) of telecommunication technology, we intend to contribute to the promotion of R&D widely and to social economic developments in our country.
